How to Apply

To be eligible to participate in the Academy, students must:

Note:  Student participation in honors classes, academic teams,  honor roll/BETA, and/or other academic programs may be considered for admission.


Accepted students will receive a $2,000 award upon successful completion of the 8-week program, no partial awards will be administered.

Academy Policies:

Students are required to attend the entire 8-week program.  Participation and completion of  research based activities, seminars, rotations, and field experiences resulting in the presentation of a research project are program requirements.  Students are expected to behave and dress appropriately for a hands-on learning environment and are required to undergo basic laboratory safety training. A published Student Handbook addressing Academy Policies and the Code of Student Conduct is provided to all accepted students and parents.

Tulane University Emerging Scholars Environmental Health Sciences Academy has a published admission policy that is made available to all applicants as a part of the admission process. The policy gives the admission criteria, as well as a description of the entire admission process.

Application Requirements:

The following forms must be submitted:

1) Completed Application with student, parent/guardian, and recommending science teacher signatures.

2)  A minimum 500 word essay guided by the following topics below, with attached Essay Coversheet completed by student:

   -   Student biographical overview

   -   Student interest/experiences in science and research

   -   Educational goals after high school

   -   Future career aspirations and goals

3) High School Counselor Recommendation form, with counselor signature.

4) High school transcript (including 2017/18 1st/2nd quarter grades) attached to High School Counselor Recommendation form.

Incomplete applications will not be submitted to the selection committee for admission consideration.

Application Deadline:

The application deadline is Friday, March 9th, 2018!  The completed and signed admission application, essay with signed essay coversheet, and signed counselor recommendation form w/transcripts can be mailed, emailed, faxed, or hand delivered to the following address by the deadline:
